      Hiya!

I think you can start being a scientist when you are really young! Its all about looking into nature, asking questions and trying to answer them. One summer my grandpa allowed me to get a little tank and catch some small fish from our local river because I kept asking questions about them!
We were observing them the whole summer in the tank. I learned what they eat, where they liked to hide in the tank, that they can change colour, that they need oxygen and so on. When autumn came we let them go! I think that’s when I became I scientist 😉

My parents tell me that as soon as I was old enough to talk, I wouldn’t stop asking them questions. They lost a lot of sleep because I’d find something in each answer that made me ask another question. I was really exhausting, so they say.

I remember taking as many science books as I could out of the library when I was 1st or 2nd class. By then I guess my parents were sick of answering my questions and I was starting to learn for myself without someone teaching me everything, I’d say that’s when I started being a scientist.

All anyone really needs to do to be a scientist is to learn to ask questions, and figure out how to go about answering them. You can do that at any age!

I think we are born scientists. Little babies set up experiments all of the time to see how things work, this is how they learn. In terms of my science career it began in 2005 when I started my PhD in psychology. A PhD is a qualification you can study for after your degree. It is usually made up of lots of scientific studies.
