      Hi SsaraHh,

I once went on a trawling boat. Trawling is when a boat is dragging a heavy net held open my a metal beam along the sea floor. It is really destructive because knocks over anything that is attached to the sea floor, like sponges or corals which often get destroyed, and catches whatever cant escape from the net.

When the full net came back up the ship it was full of fish. Fish have swim bladders to control their buoyancy, but because the fish came from deep in the sea where the pressure is different, their swim bladders became huge, damaging their internal organs. It was horrible to watch.

Back in 2003 my college class was in its final year, and we got to go on a field trip aboard the Celtic Voyager, Ireland’s official marine research ship. I didn’t notice how low the doorways were, and I whacked my head the top of a door frame while climbing the stairs inside the ship. Blood started pouring *everywhere* and when I got to a mirror I saw that I’d split my head wide open and I could actually see the bone of my skull behind the cut! That was awful. I still have a scar behind the hair on the top of my head.

Still, thanks to me being big and clumsy the Celtic Voyager installed padding on all the door frames. So technically I helped everyone on board become safer! ^_^
